How Is Natural Homemade Pet Food Made — With Love

Dogs and cats deserve a wholesome raw meat diet

A Quick Review of Natural Homemade Pet Food

The following is an extremely hard multiple answer test. Should you fail this test, then don't worry. Most people do fail this test on the first try. It takes the average person 10 tries before passing this test.

Let's begin!

  1. How many times should a *mature* dog or cat be fed each day:
    1. 1,000,000 times per day
    2. 100,000 times perd day
    3. 1,000 times per day
    4. 1 time per day

  2. How many times should a *puppy* or *kitten* be fed each day:
    1. Never because they will get full eating your shoes especially if its a puppy
    2. Anywhere from 2 to 6 times per day depending on their age

  3. What is the single *most* important supplement to give pets eating a wholesome raw meat diet:
    1. Conrete, it's loaded with mineral including iron
    2. Kryptonite — it may weaken Superman but it's awesome for our pets
    3. Calcium

  4. Realizing that *calcium* is the single *most* important supplement to give pets eating a wholesome raw meat diet, the question is why?
    1. None of the below
    2. Calcium is the single most important supplement because meat is naturally high in phosphorus yet low in calcium. So we give extra calcium to our pets because they need up to twice as much calcium as phosphorus.

  5. Since our pets should eat *as much as they want* at each meal, how much do we feed them?
    1. We remove their food before they have finished.
    2. We follow the directions on the bag of the commercial pet food.
    3. We let our pets eat as much as they want at each meal.

  6. Are cats *herbivores* (vegetarians) or *carnivores* (hunters who eat meat)?
    1. Cats are definitely herbivores and that's why we feed them hay.
    2. Cats are carnivores — meat eaters.

  7. Are dogs *herbivores* (vegetarians) or *carnivores* (hunters who eat meat)?
    1. Dogs are definitely herbivores and that's why we feed them hay.
    2. Dogs are carnivores — meat eaters.

  8. We must *soft boil* eggs before feeding because?
    1. The avidin in eggs can prevent the body from absorbing B vitamins.

  9. Since raw meat naturally contains *taurine*, an amino acid that is especially important to cats, do we need to give a taurine supplement?
    1. Yes.
    2. No.

  10. True or false, a wholesome *raw* meat diet requires you to cook the meat?
    1. True.
    2. False.

The Differences Between Our Pets

Although I have provided information for feeding dogs, cats, puppies and kittens on separate pages so you can get information, tips and techniques that specifically relates to your situation, much of the information is similar or the same. So I thought, I would take this opportunity to highlight the significant differences between dogs, cats, puppies and kittens.

Ratio of meat and vegetables:

Mature Dogs: 2 parts of meat to 1 part vegetables Mature Cats: 3 parts meat to 1 part vegetables Puppies: 3 parts meat to 1 part vegetables Kittens: 3 parts meat to 1 part vegetables

Not all cats are going to eat vegetables. While not all cats will eat vegetables, some will. In some situations, I have also not fed dogs vegetables. Ultimately, meat is the most important aspect of the diet for both dogs and cats. But vegetables can and do play a valuable role, more so for dogs.

Feedings per day:

Age Feedings Per Day 1 - 3 months 4 to 6 times per day 3 - 6 months 3 to 4 times per day 6 - 12 months 2 times per day 1 year and older once per day

Soft Fur, Shiny Fur, Bright Teeth

Our dogs fur is very soft and shiny, their teeth are getting whiter, and they are so much more relaxed. Seeing them play again with each other like puppies is the most wonderful endorsement.

What A Difference Your Diet Has Made!

2009-03-13

I just wanted to write and tell you what a difference this new diet has made in my dogs' over–all health. I am awe struck and I have only had them on it for about three weeks.

I have two Chihuahuas and a Sharpei mix. My Sharpei (Nelly) had skin problems or allergies, I think due to the dog food I was feeding her. I could run the sweeper three times a day and still have hair everywhere. I was seriously thinking of finding a new home for her. I work two jobs and have teenagers and not enough time to sweep constantly.

That's when I started searching for a new diet for the dogs. I came across this and started it right away. It doesn't really consume anymore of my time and I don't have to sweep everyday anymore! I just can't get over the difference in their coats. They are so shiny and healthy looking. Thank you so much Jesse!

I actually enjoy feeding time for them. They love it. Even the finicky Chihuahua! And another great part about this is that they don't poop near as much as they used to. I know that Nelly would go at least six times a day if not more. I have learned so much from your website. I have read a lot of books about feeding a raw diet and one would say do this and the other one say don't do that and back and forth but none of it worked out for us and none of it was as simple as this is!

I just can't thank you enough.

No More Doggie Odor

2006-10-01

I read your book seven months ago and immediately started to use the diet you advocates for my three pets — two dogs and a cat. I have had only good results. There has been a marked increase in energy, especially in one dog who was sickly. Their teeth are now white and clean, which they were not previously, there is no more doggie odor. I had absolutely no problems with fleas this autumn, which is unusual. The animals have good appetites, their coats are shining, the dogs' noses are cool and moist whereas previously they were dry and hard. I have the highest regards for Jesse and consider him an extremely intelligent and enlightened young man.
