Healthy Food — Healthy Pets

Love Is The Best Medicine

Dogs and cats deserve a wholesome raw meat diet

Day 71 — It's Mating Season

Throughout the duration of The Sick Pet Project, Jumbo the sick Chihuahua, was fed based on my method of feeding. The primary meats fed were beef and chicken. The supplements used were EggShellent Calcium, FloraZyme LP, Pet GO, Rena GO, Thyro GO and Trace AniMinerals.

Jumbo ate a small but fast meal fast today. Although it was small, it was probably the right size for him. It's not that he didn't eat; I think he just doesn't need as much right now as he is obviously getting better.

I watched him have a bowel movement today and his stools were normal, although there was slight straining but not a lot. Nonetheless, I might give him a laxative tomorrow just to help keep him cleansing. Jumbo has more energy and strength, this is for sure because not only can he jump up a step now (which he could not do for the longest time while he was detoxifying) but he also mated with his girlfriend today.

Most of the scabs are off Jumbo's body now because the owner gave him a bath. During the bath, most of the scabs just came off easily. You can see more muscle going back to Jumbo's body.

Day 73 — Twice In One Day

Jumbo must be feeling better because he mated with his girlfriend twice yesterday and twice again today. No wonder he ate a big meal today.

Day 75 — No Food Today

Jumbo has been feeling quite well especially considering how often he is mating with his girlfriend. Even today, he mated yet again. But he didn't want to eat any food today. The last few days he has been eating a ton of food and so it seems he decided not to eat — that's okay because it was his choice not to eat. However, I suspect he may also be choosing not to eat because the owners also feed their other dogs rice, a common mistake amongst those living in Asia and even in western countries. Anyway, it's possible that Jumbo has eaten some rice and so he may not be totally hungry. But he has also eaten quite a bit of food recently and so for some reason, he just decided not to eat today.

Day 76 — Do You See What Happens

Jumbo decided he wanted to mate, yet again, today — see what happens when you feed your pets a wholesome raw meat diet! They get so much strength that they spend all their time mating!

Although Jumbo has been mating quite a bit and obviously getting better, Jumbo's left hind knee was slightly inflamed. Additionally, he also had a slight wound appearing. Realizing that constipation is the underlying issue where all of Jumbo's health problem begun, I decided to give him a laxative tonight. I figure he might need another good cleanse to help flush out more toxins. In giving him the laxative, I hope that the inflamed leg will go back to normal and that the wound will go away.

Day 81 — Active, Energetic and Handsome

Jumbo is active, energetic and handsome — well, I wouldn't say he is a handsome Chihuahua yet, but he's getting there. Although his skin is scarred from previous health problems, he is looking better than before. His eyes are still not 100% clear but every day they get a little better. His body has not gone through a major detox now for a while. Things continue to look good.

Day 84 — A New Beginning

It's day 84 now, almost 3 months since The Sick Pet Project and we are now at the point where Jumbo has a new lease on life. It's a new beginning for Jumbo. Now don't get me wrong, Jumbo is still not at optimal health — but he's getting there.

Jumbo runs, plays, barks and has a great appetite. Although the detoxification experience left Jumbo with less hair than before I began feeding Jumbo a wholesome raw meat diet, I can now see small hairs growing on his body.

Although Jumbo is bald, it will be interesting to see just how much hair grows back.

The pictures below show just how far Jumbo has come in the healing process. A new beginning indeed!

As Far As I Knew — I Did Not Have A Sick Pet

2010-07-18

My story begins a little differently. As far as I knew — I did not have a sick pet.

My dog, who is now 8 years old, was getting gray hair far earlier than I thought was normal — she's had two operations on her back legs due to stretched out ligaments from chasing squirrels, and had the mid life bulge around her mid to back section — but the vets never said anything about her being too heavy at 60 pounds.

I purchased a juicer and wanted more info on juicing and came across the Juicing Book website. As I read further, I saw the pet nutrition link and forgot all about me and was intrigued that there was even a reference to pets on a juicing site.

I had been making my dogs food since the Chinese scare of tainted pet food. What I didn't know then, was while I was looking after her best interest — I was slowly killing her at the same time.

So, long story short, I dove into the whole raw diet for Rudy. I cut her off of all cooked foods starting in either February or March of this year, 2010. She wasn't keen on it and wouldn't eat for several days, no matter what I put in her bowl. I soon discovered that she didn't mind eating meat that was partially frozen. Now, she eats her food enthusiastically, cold or room temp.

Her change in diet did come with some repercussions. She had the most awful gas for a couple of days in the beginning and it about killed us. Jesse informed me that this was her body detoxing and should end shortly — which I'm all too happy to report did.

He suggested that she would benefit from some supplements; especially the digestive enzymes and the Pet GO which supports the organs and glands for a reason I don't remember... but I too have to use digestive enzymes among other supplements, and this made sense to me as well.

About 4 or 5 months into her new eating regiment she started urinating what looked like coffee colored urine. She didn't behave stressed out, still ate her food but it was a pretty disturbing sight. So I took her to the vets and they did an ultra sound and said she had no blockages, and wanted to send me home with antibiotics (which I didn't use); but in the meantime I hit Jesse with an email asking him what his thoughts were. Again, he informed this that this was more likely another sign of detoxification as she was expelling kidney sediment from her kidneys. He never knew that she had bladder problems from an infections as a puppy; but because of the dark urine it was a kidney issue. Sure enough, without any antibiotics or other drugs her urine cleared; she had terrible gas again for a couple of days and every so often it will creep on us again — but we are now familiar with the fact that this is a detox mechanism.

Jesse also explained to us that the flushing of the kidney sediment from the kidneys has helped prevent the forming of kidney stones, which obviously make me happy to know!

By the way, while at the vets office, she weighed 53 pounds (which means she has lost 7 pounds while eating all the food she wants). She looks amazing, her coat is becoming back to normal and her figure looks really good — the middle age spread is gone and she doesn't waddle when she walks.

The picture doesn't do her any justice — but hope that you can see the color of her hair becoming natural again as opposed to gray.

We can't thank Jesse enough for holding our hands thru this process — it will be much easier for the next puppy that we get — but all the information and assistance is beyond words.

My Two Large Breed Rescues Are Now Doing Better

2012-03-12

I have 2 large breed rescues, Great Pyrenees Mountain Dogs – a male and female. I didn't choose them, they chose me. I said yes because the need was obvious and severe. This tells about the female.

I don't have much history on my girl, other than she was used for breeding (over breeding) and I am her 3rd and forever home. Fur began to shed at a time she should have been filling out for winter. I also noticed her skin got a very dark pigmented color and was very dry... as was her once soft fur. Blood tests indicated low thyroid so a prescription was given – .8 mg twice a day. That worked for about a year... until the same problems reared up again. Blood tests showed normal thyroid. I was sent home with no answers, a large bill, and sick dog. Belle's fur continued to fall out... really really bad – you could pull it out with a light touch – from her back high hip and moving forward. Her neck was also an area that showed extreme fur loss and dry pigmented skin. She was deteriorating FAST.

With no help from the vet, I started my online search for answers. Then I found your pet-grub.com. I ordered several supplements and began to change her diet. Feeding large breed dogs is not inexpensive (130 lb, 85 lb) and a raw food diet has been a fiscal challenge.

That said... I believe the supplements made a HUGE difference in Belle's health. At one point I thought I would have to put her down because she was deteriorating at an alarming rate. Things did not change quickly but they did improve. First the deterioration slowed (less fur falling out)... then it stopped (no fur falling out)... then I began seeing the signs of fur growing back.... first on the high hip... then moving forward.... then on the neck area (that skin is still very dry so growing back fur has been difficult).

I have just placed my second supplement order and look forward to seeing continued health improvement.

Thank You for the information on your website and quality products that have proven themselves to me and my ever increasingly happy girl.

No More Doggie Odor

2006-10-01

I read your book seven months ago and immediately started to use the diet you advocates for my three pets — two dogs and a cat. I have had only good results. There has been a marked increase in energy, especially in one dog who was sickly. Their teeth are now white and clean, which they were not previously, there is no more doggie odor. I had absolutely no problems with fleas this autumn, which is unusual. The animals have good appetites, their coats are shining, the dogs' noses are cool and moist whereas previously they were dry and hard. I have the highest regards for Jesse and consider him an extremely intelligent and enlightened young man.
